In the last couple of years, there have been some MAJOR changes that have been affecting how we go about living our everyday lives. 


We do not even need to elaborate on why we all became a bit more sedentary for those couple of years. This has been tough for ALL of US. We all had to make adjustments as a whole.

According to Harvard Medical School over the last couple of years, there has been a significant increase in weight gain.



So why so many of us are struggling with our health, but more specifically, our waistlines? So what do smart people do when there is a change in how we conduct our everyday lives? You adapt. 

You find a way to get the workout in without having us drag our butts to a gym daily. You can not knock physical movement it is a surefire way to get things back under control and into clothes from years past. Right? That's exactly what my thinking was as well. 

Incorporating more physical activity into your everyday routine, whether it is taking the stairs instead of the escalator or walking short distances instead of driving, there are countless ways for you to get your exercise routine underway. Another pat on the back for the BEST solution to a problem, right?

Make it more convenient and make it a part of our everyday routine. But as I am sure you have noticed, some days are harder than others. We need RESULTS and results that last a lifetime. 

There is nothing wrong with this concept; it just needs to be tailored to you and your lifestyle. This means in order for you to lose weight and keep it off; the solution must have sustainable results. 

I am sure you have discovered that the weight is not falling off like you would like it to. This is because the solution that was delivered did not take your lifestyle into account and it failed you. 

Now I know you may be thinking that it must be your age right? Because that's what modern science and medicine are saying is the real reason why those pounds are not falling off. 

Sure you can go that route, just like I did many years ago before this chaos was happening. But, let me just save you some time. You will consistently come up short. Or another way of saying it....You will not lose the weight the experts are broadcasting.

But you have to know some lies about exercise that you have fallen prey to. I am not trying to paint this picture that the industry is after you, no. But they are intentionally deceiving you.

So you can't get the results you want and be a forever CUSTOMER/CONSUMER and not the happy, energetic and healthy person that you are.

So please I ask that you are receptive to what I am about to share with you. Some of these things have been programmed into our psyche, since when were kids. That was the case for me for sure and for so many others. I assure you this, you will never look at the health industry the same way.

Don't get me wrong—I'm not trying to downplay how serious this situation is. But I think it's important to remember that the nutrition industry used those uncertain times to perpetuate so many household myths if I used soft language. So let's call it what it really is, LIES.

Lie #1 Intense Exercise Expedites Weight Loss

When it comes to weightloss, there are many lies and misconceptions floating around. One of the most common is that in order to lose weight, you have to restrict your caloric intake. In other words, eat fewer calories than you burn each day. This belief is inaccurate for a few reasons: 

- Not all calories are created equal. For example, 100 calories from a piece of fruit are not the same as 100 calories from a candy bar. 


- You may eat more than you burn on some days, but if you're regularly burning more calories than you consume, you will lose weight in the long run.

- If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to make healthy choices every day, not just on days when you're trying to diet.

Furthermore focusing on intense exercise opens the door to one of the most detrimental things you do you your body - Undereating

Lie #2 Reduce Calories For Permanent Weight Loss

You have seen the diets that reduce your calories to 1400 or even 1000 total in a day for weight loss. This is extreme and dangerous. 

You are very likely to become nutrient deficient in the process, which can leave you feeling sluggish and make it harder for your body to recover from workouts. 

And let's be honest—if you're not eating enough calories, then how will you have the energy to work out or even function in everyday life? 

It may sound counterintuitive to say that dieting for fat loss is a bad thing, but if you’re not going about it correctly, then you could be causing damage. 

It can cause long-term issues like low energy, hormonal imbalances and even increase the likelihood of developing chronic diseases. 

So yes, extreme dieting is a terrible thing and it's time to start focusing on what really works. 

Restricting calories too drastically can negatively affect fertility, especially for women as the ability of ovulation depends on hormone levels and an increase in estrogen or luteinizing hormone (LH).

Which is needed with each pound gained during pregnancy - but this isn't always enough if you're cutting corners elsewhere!

The link between low-calorie consumption and reduced reproductive function has been found both experimentally by scientists who gave rats less food until they became overweight; 

then looked at how often Cyclic Johnston Syndrome happened among these animals compared so closely matched control groups without any history—and among humans. 

Researchers in the Netherlands, for example, asked more than 16000 women about their diets and then tracked them for 12 years to see which women eventually gave birth and went on to become pregnant again (if they had any issues with fertility).



What they found was that those who claimed they reduced their calories by 500 or less per day were twice as likely to have fertility problems, whereas those who ate between 500 and 1000 calories MORE per day had a 50 percent increase in fertility.



...Reducing Your Immunity & Weaken Your Bones

That’s because calorie restriction can reduce estrogen and testosterone levels. Low levels of these two reproductive hormones are thought to reduce bone formation and increase bone breakdown, resulting in weaker bones.

In addition, your body starts to break down its own muscle tissue for protein and energy. 
This process is called catabolism. While the goal should be to lose fat, not lean mass, the breakdown of this muscle tissue can slow metabolism and make it harder to lose fat in the long term. 

Furthermore researched has shown when athletes in disciplines that required leanness made more frequent attempts to lose weight by calorie restriction and were almost twice as likely to have been sick in the previous three months

Lie #3 Ultra-Restrictive Eating Plans 

Diets that are not sustainable in the long term are often those which require you to exclude foods in an unrealistic way. For example, if you make a promise to yourself never to eat sweets again, you're more likely give in to cravings than if you allowed yourself the occasional reasonable treat. 


This is where the MAJORITY OF PROBLEMS begin with the emotional pits that we can ALL sink into. Especially when you have been struggling with success.

If you are with me still, I want you to understand something. I have a very big chip on my shoulder. You see I was a VERY unpopular kid who did not fit in, not even in the least. To say I had low self-esteem was a complete overstatement. 

But that wasn't the end of it - this painful experience stuck with me, and I continued to have low self-esteem and a negative outlook on my body. I can even to this day remember that feeling those thoughts, "This is what Rock Bottom feels like"  

But that's when something changed - I decided to make a change. I knew I deserved better than how I was feeling, so I started taking small steps to improve my diet and exercise habits, focusing on eating whole foods and getting regular physical activity. 



I became so focused on improving my appearance and I knew every single thing going into my body had to be researched, compared and tested to see if it was truly worth my efforts. Slowly but surely, I started noticing a difference in how I looked and felt. And that's when the real weight loss journey began - this wasn't just about losing weight, it was about taking control of my life and being the best me that I could be.

I was a failure at everything I did( this is not self proclaimed, I had a losing track record to prove it). My diet and weight were no exception - I had tried so many different fad diets and exercise programs, but nothing seemed to work for long. I struggled with my weight for years, and felt lost, frustrated, and unhappy.

Let's not even begin to talk about what my direct family members were telling me. We are big-boned," telling me "it's baby weight." 

The hardest part about it all, if just those everyday circumstances and reality were not enough was that I had such a low self worth. I didn't think I was worthy of success, happiness or true love.

I tried to play football my senior year of high school which was at the time what I thought a big turning point for me. No way would I be a starter but I just wanted to be on the team. I was out of shape but I had huge aspirations.

So the first game of the season and I was so excited, I am in the locker room getting ready and I was putting my shirt on. The ENTIRE football team knew what was happening but no one did a thing. I was putting my jersey on and had it above my head about to slide it down over my pads and then BOOM.

I was humiliated by the amount of laughter I heard when I was seen without my shirt on. The locker room erupted with laughter, and I was in disbelief. I was made fun of for how much my body jiggled every time I moved and when I put my hands up it to put my jersey on, it showed my ever-so-masculine "man boobs".

I could not even think about leaving that locker room. I was so ashamed and disappointed in myself. I felt like a loser, an absolute LOSER. A big part of my life just ended right then and there I felt.

So I am starting to see changes in my life, how I carried myself and how I felt about myself. But I still wasn't seeing the changes I wanted to see in the mirror. I knew this was my calling, I was going to help others not just myself get ahold of. And that is exactly what I did - I became a personal trainer and nutritionist, helping others like me who were struggling with weight loss find the right diet and exercise regimen for their individual needs. 

Through my work as a personal trainer, I helped many people lose weight and feel more confident, so I know firsthand how powerful the right diet plan can be.

So I got some results which was great, and I was feeling better. Not so much about my body, but I was able to help so many people get a better routine and results. It wasn't until I met a really good friend of mine who at the time was a big-time model, that is when my life went on a completely different trajectory.

I took a chance and decided that I would use this potential career shift to create even more meaning to focus and accelerate my results. I took a chance and hired a professional photographer to take photos for me to live in a completely different world. A world I NEVER thought possible for the fat, ugly stupid guy I was told I was for the 20 years prior.

As life would have it, I contacted 16 modeling agencies in New York City; I figured if I was going to do something and fail, I better do it BIG. I mean really BIG.

I got off the plane and it was time to meet everyone. I was meeting more people who were interested in what I had to say and even thought I had a chance. And guess what, they liked my personality and photos, who would think a fat ugly kid like me could be in the modeling world? But I was. 

So over the next couple of weeks, I waited like a kid ready for Christmas morning. I want to know what they thought of my pictures and if I would get hired as a model. 16 agencies later, I had 15 rejection letters saying no...some said it was because "I didn't have enough experience, and others said that I just wasn't the right fit for their company". I was devastated. But instead of giving up I found the one email that gave no promises and I would have to fly to NYC on my own dime and meet the team. 

I went to NYC by myself, mind you! I had never left my home state of VA by myself before and to be on a plane YIKES!

From that day forward, I felt like I had arrived. Or so I thought. I still had to compare and compete with people who were leagues ahead of me in terms of being in better shape. 


My plan was to work harder and even harder. I exercised more and thought I was making more scientific based decisions for my nutrition. I knew I had my first shoot coming up and I wanted to really blow them away.

Well...

That photo shoot came, and I was certain I would have everyone on set impressed. I worked really hard, I was doing 2- 3workouts a day sometimes, I was up early, worked all day, and then went home to cook myself a salad for dinner (I thought that by not eating junk food and making a simple salad for dinner made me healthy). What really happened was that when I stepped on the set, my clothes were too tight, I had put on more weight due to stress. 

I felt defeated yet again. How could this happen? And to add to it, the other model was in significantly better shape. There was no way possible this guy outworked me. No way!

I did something that, at the time, I thought was crazy but looking back, it was genius. I went up to that model after the shoot and told him everything I had done to get ready, and he started laughing. Not just a little laugh but a huge belly laugh.

I won't forget these words "if you keep working that hard you are going to burn out in 2 months and be like the people who buy these magazines." I was floored by that comment. What was he talking about?

He proceeded to give me a Harvard-level education that I listened to, in between shoots, and I was taking notes on any piece of scrap paper I could find. I took that knowledge and added it to mine and got a real head-scratcher moment. It actually looked like I would be doing less, like a lot less work. I was looking at nothing that involved me exercising to lose weight. It was ALL nutrition.

How was this possible? 

I saw his results, and I followed along like a musician who reads sheet music. With 100% accuracy, it was less work, right? Why not! 

I arrived for my then 2 shoot, and I was a completely different person. Even the other model was impressed as well as my agency. Just like before, I went and talked to the other models and wanted to hear their philosophy, and Boom, there it was again. They never worked hard. 

Now you may be thinking, it's genetics. That's the secret. WRONG.

ALL WRONG. I and many others came from BAD genetic backgrounds but were walking around on set like me.

I took a chance and hired a professional photographer to take photos for me to live in a completely different world. A world I NEVER thought possible for the fat, ugly stupid guy I was told I was for the 20 years prior.

As life would have it, I contacted 16 modeling agencies in New York City; I figured if I was going to do something and fail, I better do it BIG. I mean really BIG.

I got off the plane and it was time to meet everyone. I was meeting more people who were interested in what I had to say and even thought I had a chance. And guess what, they liked my personality and photos, who would think a fat ugly kid like me could be in the modeling world? But I was. 

So over the next couple of weeks, I waited like a kid ready for Christmas morning. I want to know what they thought of my pictures and if I would get hired as a model. 16 agencies later, I had 15 rejection letters saying no...some said it was because "I didn't have enough experience, and others said that I just wasn't the right fit for their company". I was devastated. But instead of giving up I found the one email that gave no promises and I would have to fly to NYC on my own dime and meet the team. 

I went to NYC by myself, mind you! I had never left my home state of VA by myself before and to be on a plane YIKES!

From that day forward, I felt like I had arrived. Or so I thought. I still had to compare and compete with people who were leagues ahead of me in terms of being in better shape. 


My plan was to work harder and even harder. I exercised more and thought I was making more scientific based decisions for my nutrition. I knew I had my first shoot coming up and I wanted to really blow them away.

Well...

That photo shoot came, and I was certain I would have everyone on set impressed. I worked really hard, I was doing 2- 3workouts a day sometimes, I was up early, worked all day, and then went home to cook myself a salad for dinner (I thought that by not eating junk food and making a simple salad for dinner made me healthy). What really happened was that when I stepped on the set, my clothes were too tight, I had put on more weight due to stress. 

I felt defeated yet again. How could this happen? And to add to it, the other model was in significantly better shape. There was no way possible this guy outworked me. No way!

I did something that, at the time, I thought was crazy but looking back, it was genius. I went up to that model after the shoot and told him everything I had done to get ready, and he started laughing. Not just a little laugh but a huge belly laugh.

I won't forget these words "if you keep working that hard you are going to burn out in 2 months and be like the people who buy these magazines." I was floored by that comment. What was he talking about?

He proceeded to give me a Harvard-level education that I listened to, in between shoots, and I was taking notes on any piece of scrap paper I could find. I took that knowledge and added it to mine and got a real head-scratcher moment. It actually looked like I would be doing less, like a lot less work. I was looking at nothing that involved me exercising to lose weight. It was ALL nutrition.

How was this possible? 

I saw his results, and I followed along like a musician who reads sheet music. With 100% accuracy, it was less work, right? Why not! 

I arrived for my then 2 shoot, and I was a completely different person. Even the other model was impressed as well as my agency. Just like before, I went and talked to the other models and wanted to hear their philosophy, and Boom, there it was again. They never worked hard. 

Now you may be thinking, it's genetics. That's the secret. WRONG.

ALL WRONG. I and many others came from BAD genetic backgrounds but were walking around on set like me.
